(Lin and Lyn)

Evelyn 'standing by her man', Lindsay, circa 1941 in the 'fake' army
uniform photo set up by mum to tease her parents. (Dad had been refused
entry to the forces because he was in an essential industry - Archie and
Mabel initially thought he was a coward and did NOT approve!)

.

.
Mr and Mrs Burge 11 December 1943, the bridesmaid on the right is
Rita McLean, the other three members of the party are unknown to me.
If you know who any of them are, PLEASE let me know!

.
John Alfred Lindsay and Evelyn Mabel Burge again...
11th December 1943, St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Geelong
..

This is the colour portrait mum and dad chose to enlarge for their
home. A large version, with the sad story of the eventual outcome
of this beautiful photo is here

.
Lindsay and Evelyn's first child, born 12 August 1945
(name witheld, still living)
.
.
...and their last child, me! Valda Burge,
approximately 2 years old, at Avoca, Victoria
(not long after Evelyn's death)
.
.
Valda again, age 10, with my youngest brother age 12
(name witheld, still living)
.
.
Lindsay with long time partner/housekeeper Freda Bullock,
taken at Freda's house, Emu, Victoria, approximately 1975
(I said she was smiling, but my big sister said "no, she was just baring her teeth!")
.
.
My favourite photo of Lindsay, taken at the top of Uluru (Ayres Rock)
Central Australia, 1993 - it's a big climb for someone half his age!
.
.
Mr and Mrs Burge on their wedding day 24 April 1994.
Dad said she reminded him of Evelyn...
.
.
Lindsay, April 1996, Boolarra, Victoria. Showing obvious signs
of the cancer he was to pass away from a month later. Note the
barrel of the pea rifle behind him... kept on hand to scare those
pesky Indian Minors away. Was he reaching back to take a
pot-shot at my biggest brother for taking such a sorry photo?
Perhaps... ;-)
.
Love ya dad...
